It’s funny when I listen to so many people, including that little voice in my head, that talk about the things that they are trying to accomplish so that they feel good about themselves. And although I completely understand this mentality, I would ask (and I do to myself regularly when I have these errant thought visitors) why are you waiting to feel good? Why wait?

I hear…

“If I lost 10 pounds, then…”

“If I had a better body, then…”

“If my hair was this color, then…”

“If I only had this much money, then…”

“If I got that promotion, then…”

“If I only had that perfect partner, then…”

This ifs and the thens are infinite in possibilities.

But invariably the gist is, if I or my situation were different then I would be happy or satisfied or enjoy life better.

But why wait?

I am not suggesting that anyone not have goals or desires or hopes. I am merely suggesting that being joyful and happy with exactly what is now is not only possible, but absolutely imperative in experiencing life the way it is intended to be experienced.

And I absolutely am not suggesting that the way things currently are should be where things stay. On the contrary, embracing the way things are, finding the joy in any and every situation and attribute of life, allows more change than fighting against it by an infinite amount.

Everything in life is possible and everything in life is embraceable.

So why wait?

Although there are many reasons we become devoted to something or someone, many of us become devoted after we glimpse the depth of our reality in some, even small, way.

When that jolt of understanding comes ripping through, there is a connection that we feel and see (inside) and want to hold onto. Often, it is quite fleeting but our devotion may be set.

For some, however or whomever led us to this inspiration becomes a conduit, or perhaps an anchor point, that allows us to connect to the glimpse again. However, most become so devoted to that thing, person, or experience that it clouds their ability to see past it to what is being pointed to, thus becoming an anchor that holds them to that person, event, or ritual.

It’s always the question of what is more important: the path to the understanding or the understanding itself.

Each of us has a unique view of Truth. Our own Truth is based upon our perception of what is real. Every time we glimpse another aspect of what is real, we grow just a bit in the perspective of the universe. The journey is infinite and at each moment we can perceive a little more if we are open to it. We each choose different paths which may seem similar or different to others’ paths, but each of us is unique in our journey through this existence. We ebb and flow through our journey, not in content of acts and achievements, but in our engagement, our current context, with life. The more we listen and more we allow it to seep out from inside, the more connected we become with history, with the future, with the current.

Each path can be a perfect path if the desire is to connect and grow and see. When we judge another’s connection as wrong, we break a little from our own. We may not be able to see or understand another’s path, but when all is said and done, we’ll see that the journey is above and beyond the path and that the engagement with life is what is successful or not.
