If we were to envision each thought and memory of the past
and each thought and worry of the future as a small weight that accumulates in
your mind and anchors our consciousness in our current level of
First, when we recognize that these thoughts are
thoughts that we carry with us in an infinite backpack of memory, it
to see those thoughts as only things to be aware of if we choose but not =
as a weight belt like when scuba diving.
And just like in scuba diving, when that weight belt is
jettisoned, we naturally begin to rise.
When we realize that only the current moment and the current
decision that we are making or not making is all that we can embrace, it
releases that infinite weight that we carry.
For those that exist in a life situation that is full of
dread, guilt and past mistakes, the accumulation of those past thoughts acts as
one part of the weight belt. And what appears to be the infinite steps that it
would take to overcome the current life situation all stack up to create
another part of the weight belt.
However, when only one decision and one moment is taken into
consideration right now, the weight is released and the one decision becomes
much easier. Do I turn left or turn right? Do I take a drink or not? Do I walk
downtown or walk away?
When the weight begins to release and we begin to buoy our
consciousness, better, if not great ideas, start to come our way. And thus the
journey out of the darkness becomes to seem easier and easier than we ever
thought possible. Perhaps I ask for help. Perhaps I turn the other way today.
Perhaps I learn something more today.
To stack the thoughts, memories, and worries of the past and
the future into an infinite weight belt will only keep us at our current level
of inner pain.
Seeing them as those little weights are a first step to
letting them fall away.
